New victory for the FDJ!
The FDJ team has enjoyed a string of victories lately. Only 5 days after Antony Geslin won the Flèche Brabançonne, Jérôme Coppel won the Route Adélie in Brittany - his 1st victory as a professional rider.
After several failed attempts of break, a dozen of riders – including 4 riders of the FDJ: Benoît Vaugrenard, Jérémy Roy, Jérôme Coppel et Rémy Di Gregorio – managed to break through 20 kms before the finishing line. Soon later, Jérôme Copel and David Lelay (Agritubel team) took the head of the group.
“During the sprint, says Jérôme, I had doubts on whether I could win. But Lelay is more of a climber, and I came to think everything was possible. I gained confidence, and that made the difference.”
One month after Jérémy Roy’s performance in the Paris-Nice, Jérôme Coppel is the 2nd rider coming from the FDJ Foundation to climb on the top step of the podium, which goes to show the process of training and recruitment of riders is the right one.
“Jérôme is a very strong contender, we all knew that, declared Franck Pineau, from the FDJ staff. With such a reputation, he had to prove he lived up to it quickly. This first goal is achieved, and I’m sure he will have a wonderful season.”
